Von 1953 bis 1971 studierte er am Pädagogischen Institut Vilnius, absolvierte das Staatliche Institut für Theaterkunst (GITIS) und schloss ein Aufbaustudium am Staatlichen Institut für Theaterkunst (GITIS) ab. 1981 verteidigte er seine Dissertation in Kunstwissenschaften. Ab 1983 war er außerordentlicher Professor und Doktor der Geisteswissenschaften. Gründer und Direktor der Gesellschaft für Geschichte und Traditionen des litauischen Theaters, Direktor des Litauischen Museums für Theater, Musik und Kino (1997–2003).

of Theatre Arts (GITIS) and completed postgraduate studies at the State Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS). In 1981 he defended a thesis in Art Study. From 1983 he was Associate Professor, Doctor of Humanities. Founder and Director of the Lithuanian Theatre’s History and Traditions Society, Director of the Lithuanian Museum of Theatre, Music and Cinema (1997–2003).
